Logophiles Anonymous Brings Magnetic Poetry (and a Free Gift) to GCE PDX

Logophiles Anonymous, GeekCraft Expo

It's the final countdown (do-do-DO-do!) to GeekCraft Expo PDX, May 12-13 at the Oregon Convention Center, but we had time to squeeze in one more interview with Heidi Ducote of Logophiles Anonymous.

You could say we were magnetically attracted to the subject—Logophiles Anonymous creates poetry magnet sets featuring such pop culture delights as Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and more.

Read on to learn more, and find out about the free gift they'll be offering to those who stop by their space at the show!

GeekCraft Expo: How did Logophiles Anonymous get its start? Heidi Ducote: The very first time I’d ever seen poetry magnets was about a zillion years ago when I went to visit my best friend in her new college dorm. Her fridge was cluttered with these awesome words, and there were some goofy phrases strewn all about. I was addicted ever since! Fast forward about 10 years, and I had a slightly unhealthy obsession with magnetic poetry—there was no magnetic surface that was safe!

Despite the literal thousands of words available at our fingertips, there were always certain words that the family and I wished we had. That is when the idea to make my own came! I made some really rough looking magnets for home for a while, and I was geeking out really hard with my Harry Potter quotes on my fridge, and that's when the idea came to me to make pop-culture themed ones to sell! It honestly took three years for me to figure out all the details on how to make my magnets as professional looking with superb quality, and I haven’t looked back since! GCE: What drew you to magnets? HD: I mean, they’re magnetic—they have this sort of attractive quality, do they not? ;) GCE: Do you write poetry? HD: I used to! As many of us find out as we get older, some passions of ours end up taking the backseat for a while, but I do think about needing to make the time for things like this. I have, however, taken a keen interest in making haikus spreading across various fandoms (the Voldemort one is my favorite)!

GCE: What do you like best about your magnet poetry collections? HD: I love every aspect of it, actually! I am still in love with the product itself and I’m very proud of how much I put into it. I love the opportunity it gives me to stay at home with the family and have a really badass job. I love doing really fun shows and bringing the husband and kids along (I mean, how many kids can say they grew up going to Comic Cons with their parents for work??). And probably one of the best things that came from this whole adventure—meeting so many people with the same fascination I do for my craft, and to see how creative people are!

I’ve created custom sets for poetry and literary festivals, for teachers and librarians for the classroom, several wedding invitations/save the dates, “study guides” for medical and law students—pretty much everything! I love being a part of it and having people genuinely appreciate that their purchase is from a mom making these from her kitchen table. Shop small, y’all! GCE: What are your personal nerdy shows, video games, etc? HD: #teamhufflepuff. ‘Nuff said.

GCE: What’s your favorite convention snack? HD: We’ve recently tried Wild Bill’s Soda for the first time, and holy smokes it's amazing! I swear I must have drank a month’s worth of calories of the Vintage Vanilla Cream at my last convention! If you ever see them, buy their refillable mug and prepare for liquid bliss! So worth it! GCE: What are you bringing to the show this year? HD: I am bringing back all of our fan favorites, including Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, an adult one (wink wink), and so much more! If there is a fandom we don’t have, we do custom orders, so please ask. We love creating new things! I’ll also be giving out a free gift for those who stop by, so come by and say hi!

Our thanks to Heidi for the final interview before GeekCraft Expo PDX. Hope to see you all there at the Oregon Convention Center!
