25th Hour Crafts Brings Nerdy Goodness to GeekCraft Expo Midwest

25th Hour Crafts GeekCraft Expo

GeekCraft Expo Midwest's Spring Thing is this weekend! Come to the Madison Masonic Center March 3 and 4 to browse dozens of incredible geeky crafters at our free, family friendly show. Treat the kids to free craft activities from The Bodgery, grab a bit to eat at the "Mos Eisley Cantina," and pose for a photo op (cosplay strongly encouraged!).

25th Hour Crafts is one of our rad returning exhibitors: we interviewed Kayla and Scott Bitz about their inspirations and what types of goodies they're bringing to the show this year.

GeekCraft Expo: You make so many different types of crafts! Can you describe them all? Scott and Kayla Bitz: As Kay says, they're mostly things you think your Grandma could make if she was a huge nerd.

GCE: What ties all of your various products together? SKB: They're all made to be nerdy by hand with love. GCE: What does “25th Hour Crafts” mean? SKB: If we had an extra hour every day, we'd use it for crafting because that's how we roll or rather, craft. GCE: What are some of your favorite things to make, and why? SKB: Scott loves making the chain mail bags because often as he's putting them together, you get some interesting effects—like with royal blue and black, the black seems to disappear and makes the blue feel like it's floating. Kay enjoys making the nerdy fleece blankets, because they're a unique take on what people expect from fleece blankets especially since there is no frill. GCE: What are your favorite geeky movies, TV shows, comics, or video games? SKB: Kay is a huge Doctor Who and Thor fan, whereas Scott loves The Legend of Zelda, Star Wars, and Iron Man. We both also love The Lord of the Rings. GCE: What is your favorite convention snack? SKB: Our favorite convention snack is beef jerky, especially the teriyaki flavor. GCE: What are you bringing to GeekCraft Expo Midwest this spring? SKB: We're bringing fabric dice bags with drawstrings or zippers, chain mail dice bags, nerdy fleece blankets, nerdy amigurumi, necklaces, earrings, and a hand-knitted fourth Doctor's scarf.

Our thanks to 25th Hour Crafts for the great interview! Don't forget to visit their table at GeekCraft Expo Midwest's Spring Thing this weekend.
