Lauli Designs Creates Clothes That Grow With Kids for GCE Midwest

Lauli Designs GeekCraft Expo

We're counting down the weeks until GeekCraft Expo Midwest's Spring Thing March 3-4! Join us for a weekend of handmade geeky crafts, free kids activities, and fun for the whole family. Plus, you can grab a bite to eat at the "Mos Eisley Cantina," the Madison Masonic Center's Star Wars-themed lounge!

Looking for geek-themed kids clothes that last? Lauli Designs, one of our incredible exhibitors, has cloth diapers and clothes you'll want to see! This company is run by two sisters, Lauren Rosemeyer and Elizabeth Barlow, and we had the chance to chat with Lauren about their business and what they're bringing to GeekCraft this spring!

GeekCraft Expo: How did you get started creating kids clothes? Lauren Rosemeyer: Elizabeth started our business making cloth diapers, and as our fan base grew, the requests for child and adult clothing followed. We also have young children that were obsessed with so many of our prints, and that helped us fall deeper in love with making the various products that we offer. GCE: Can you give our readers a brief overview of the types of things you make? LR: We make clothes (diapers, pants, and tops) that grow with your child. Our one-size diapers fit 10-40 lbs. Our Grow With Me [line] has two sizes (6 months to 3 years and 3 to 6 years). Dresses are a huge hit as well! GCE: What are Miniloones and Maxaloones? LR: Miniloones and Maxaloones are a Grow With Me design. These pants come in three different sizes: 3 months to 12 months; 6 months to 3 years; 1 to 5 years. They are made with the best-quality knit fabric in custom prints, and one pair of Maxaloones will replace six pairs of pants over the growth period of 6 months to 3 years, saving you money and space. All you have to do is simply roll the waistband down and cuffs up when your little one is little, and as they grow, you unroll the cuffs and waistband. We offer these in two different styles; with a bum circle that provides more room for stretch over cloth diapers, or without a bum circle.

GCE: Your kids clothes are so cute! How did you come up with your designs? LR: Thank you! We each have three children and they play a big part in our patterns and designs. Elizabeth has created her own pattern for her cloth diapers, but what we make is from purchased patterns by various designers. It is one of our future goals to create our own patterns. GCE: When I had my daughter a few years ago, I was really surprised by the boom in cute cloth diapers! What do you think spurred this, and what do you think makes an ideal cloth diaper? LR: I think many are seeing the green side of cloth diapering along with the health benefits for our babies. The prints are just the icing on the cake. To me the perfect cloth diapers are the one-size pockets or covers. One diaper will fit a baby from 10 lbs all the way to toddler size, around 40 lbs.

GCE: What’s your favorite geeky movie, character, or show? LR: Elizabeth is a huge Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Marvel, and DC fan, while I geek out over Labyrinth, Bob's Burgers, and superheroes. Our lists really can go on and on! GCE: What are you bringing to GeekCraft Expo Midwest this spring? LR: This spring we will be bringing our Grow With Me line, including tops, pants, and shorts; many geek-themed cloth diapers, dresses for ages two and up; adult/one-size-fits-most headbands and small accessories.

Our thanks to Lauren for the fantastic interview. Make sure to RSVP for GeekCraft Expo Midwest's Spring Thing, come to the Madison Masonic Center, and check out Lauli Designs!
